Bass and Reiner is pleased to present With a little bit of Luck, We’ll Make it Through the Night, a duo show featuring American Artist Carissa Potter and Danish Artist Mie Mogensen. It is the gallery’s second show with Mogensen and first with Potter.

The exhibition is a reunification. The artists worked in an intimately collaborative manner while taking part in an artist residency in Iceland in 2017. They merged their practices together creating pieces in tandem, with semblances of each embedded in the outcome. Through their collaboration, they found new paths and strategies, reflecting on the complex notion of being yourself while with someone who makes you feel like more than yourself. Thriving in this profoundly cozy environment, they felt a sense of loss upon returning to their respective homes and as a result they strove to stay connected in every way available.  With a Little Bit of Luck... aims to retrace the bond between them through a series of large scale drawings and a sculptural display as well as an interactive performance for the brief period of time that the two of them are back together.

About the Artists:

Mie Hørlyck Mogensen is based in Copenhagen, Denmark. Her practice moves seamlessly between sculpture, drawing, and video. After receiving her MFA from the San Francisco Art Institute in 2013, she returned to Denmark and was awarded the 2014 KE-Prize from Kunstnernes Efterårsudstilling. Her work has been exhibited extensively throughout California including shows at Diane Rosenstein Fine Art, Los Angeles; City Limits Gallery, Oakland; Root Division, San Francisco; and The Torrance Museum of Art, Torrance. She has also shown at Rummet nr.6 in Copenhagen and SÍM Gallery in Reykjavík. More information here.

Carissa Potter received her MFA in Printmaking from the San Francisco Art Institute in 2010. She is a founding member of Colpa Press and the founder of People I’ve Loved. Since 2010, she has been an artist in residence at Kala Art Institute in Berkeley. Carissa has worked with the ICA, Boston; BAM/PFA, Berkeley; SFMOMA, San Francisco; The de Young Museum, San Francisco; The California College of the Arts, Oakland; The Color Factory, San Francisco; and Facebook, Palo Alto. She has produced a book with Chronicle Books entitled I like you, I love you and is working on her second book, It’s Okay to Feel Things Deeply. More information here.
